An Evening with Alejandro Saravia and Maria Jose Giminez at East City Books

Alejandro Saravia was born in Cochabamba, Bolivia and lives in Montreal, where he works as a journalist. Saravia is the author of eight volumes of poetry. His trilingual (French-Spanish-English) poetry collection Lettres de Nootka (2008) has been studied in various Canadian universities. His most recent book of poems is L’homme polyphonique (2014). Saravia has given readings at the Havana Festival of Poetry and Art, the Blue Metropolis Festival in Montreal, and the Rhythm and Colour Festival at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto.

María José Giménez is a Venezuelan-Canadian poet and translator. Recipient of a 2016 Gabo Prize for Translation and fellowships from the NEA, The Banff International Literary Translation Centre, and the Katharine Bakeless Nason Endowment, María José works in Spanish, English, and French and is Assistant Translation Editor for Anomaly (fka Drunken Boat). Published translations include Edurne Pasaban’s memoir Tilting at Mountains (Mountaineers Books, 2014), Alejandro Saravia’s novel, Red, Yellow, Green (Biblioasis, 2017), and a chapbook of poems by Mara Pastor, As Though The Wound Had Heard (Cardboard House Press, 2017).
