Join us for the exhibition opening and reception (RSVP required) of Nothing Personal: A Collaboration in Black and White in Gillespie Gallery of the Art and Design Building.

“Nothing Personal,” (1964) by James Baldwin, photographs by Richard Avedon

The School of Art team, led by Don Russell, Yassmin Salem and Rick Heffner, bring you Nothing Personal from page to gallery walls of Gillespie. This is a not to be missed event and we will launch the exhibition at a pre-showing on Sept 9th with a big reception at 5pm. The reception is free and open to the public but requires a RSVP. After this reception please join us as we walk over to the Center for the Arts and have a group discussion with critical discourse around the play, 'Blues for Mister Charlie'.

The book Nothing Personal, (1964) by James Baldwin, photographs by Richard Avedon - is for anyone who wants just a little bit of Baldwin reflecting on dignity, love, loneliness, from the streets of New York to the streets of Paris and the world. Baldwin and Avedon went to high school together.

Where to find it: A pocketbook version was re-issued in 2021. Nothing Personal, (published by Beacon Books) by  James Baldwin  (Author), Eddie S. Glaude Jr.  (Afterword), Imani Perry  (Foreword) – many libraries carry it.

Original book: with Richard Avedon photographs is harder to find but we have copies at the exhibition.
