James Baldwin at the Crossroads
"The Devil Finds Work" with E. Ethelbert Miller
Thursday, September 26, 2024 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM EDT
Eaton House, 1203 K St. NW, Washington DC

For, I have seen the devil, by day and night, and have seen him in you and in me…
-James Baldwin
Join us in collaboration with Strathmore, during these difficult times, we find ourselves searching for a moral voice to guide us out of darkness and despair. James Baldwin was that voice when our nation celebrated its Bicentennial in 1976 and Baldwin published his book on film, The Devil Finds Work.
In 2024, we revisit and reexamine a book in which a writer looks at the powerful images of film and how they shape a nation’s identity and perhaps prevent us from loving the stranger as well as ourselves.
