The bestselling author of The Joy Luck Club and The Valley of Amazement, Amy Tan explores her life as a writer, her childhood, her family, and the relationship between fiction and emotional memory in her new memoir, Where the Past Begins. Using photographs, letters and memory, Tan writes vividly about her development as a writer and her family's journey from China to the United States. Where the Past Begins is an intimate look into the life of one of country's most important writers.
Tan will be in conversation with Deborah Tannen, professor of linguistics at Georgetown University and author of the now-classic You Just Don’t Understand and, most recently, You’re the Only One I Can Tell.
The event will take place on Wednesday, October 18 at 7:00 at The Sixth & I Synagogue.
