Matthew Davis, the founding director of The Alan Cheuse International Writers Center, stepped behind the bench of the Mason Men's Basketball team on Wednesday, January 25, as part of the university's Sideline Coaching program. Begun last year, the program allows faculty and staff to embed with the George Mason men's basketball for one game.
Coach Dave Paulson brought the Sideline Coaching Program idea with him from Bucknell University as a way of bringing athletics and academics closer together. In addition to sitting on the bench with the Patriots during their game against George Washington University, Davis attended a scouting report and practice.
Davis's college coaching career began at 7:00 at Eagle Bank Arena. Tickets to Mason's Men's Basketball games are available via the basketball website.
